UBA SET TO PARTNER TONY ELUMELU FOUNDATION

United Bank for Africa (UBA) has promised to partner with Tony Elumelu Foundation to ensure that the dreams of building business leadership and entrepreneurship across Africa are achievable, within the short time possible.

Speaking at the official launch of the foundation, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, UBA, Mr. Philips Oduoza, said the bank will, through its arm known as UBA Foundation, which deals with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), offer needed support to the Elumelu foundation.

According to him, UBA Foundation anchors three key areas: Economic empowerment, Education and environmental development.

'For us in UBA Foundation, we feel it is the right thing to support the Tony Elumelu Foundation and ensure that there is true collaboration between the two foundations in the development of leadership in Africa.''

He noted that leveraging on the Africa-wide spread of the bank, which has branches in eighteen countries of the continent; the foundation will make remarkable impact. The founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation and former Managing Director of UBA, Mr Tony Elumelu said that the foundation is established to identify and facilitate African business leaders and entrepreneurs to achieve its central objective of meaningfully advancing Africa's economic development and prosperity.

''The Tony Elumelu Foundation seeks to contribute to the economic transformation of the African continent by working to foster and impact Africa's business leaders and entrepreneurs at various stages of their development , from business students and young entrepreneurs to leaders of Africa's increasingly global businesses,' Elumelu stated.

He assured that the foundation will in the nearest future consider giving scholarships because its founding needs will be taken care of by Hairs Holding Company, UBA, as well as other foundations across Africa and beyond. As an African based and funded institution he maintained, the foundation provides a particularly relevant African perspective, ensuring that firms in the continent are represented and professionally equipped to compete in the global mainstream of business.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the foundation, Dr.Wiebe Boer described Elumelu as a man of exceptional vision with whom he will work to achieve the objective of the organization. According to him, ''Joining the Tony Elumelu Foundation is an honour and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help harness the economic and human potential of Africans to improve their lives.''
