Deadly Weapons: Azazi Visits Lagos; Clearing Agent Detained

San Francisco, Oct 27, (THEWILL) – The National Security Adviser (NSA), General Owoye Azazi (rtd) today visited Lagos to inspect the deadly weapons impounded yesterday by the State Security Service (SSS).


THEWILL can also report that the SSS has detained the clearing agent handling the containers following government’s commitment to track down the owner of the 13 containers packed with rocket launchers, RPG’s, mortars and mortar rounds amongst others.

The whereabouts of the importer, an Iranian national could not be ascertained as at press time.


Speaking to journalists after inspecting the weapons, Azazi who was in the company of Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin, said security agencies would not jump into any conclusion until a proper assessment of the cargoes have been done.

Azazi commended the SSS for its diligence and assured that Nigerians will be informed on facts about the seized weapons.


“We need a lot of verification on this incident and at the end of the day Nigerians will know what the issue is truly all about. Let us not jump into conclusion. We have discovered them and we will do whatever is required to make sure that everybody is protected, that is the most important thing at this point,” the NSA said.


Meanwhile, THEWILL gathered from Nigerian Custom sources that the containers arrived at the port without a form ‘M’ or the Risk Assessment Report (RAR). The form ‘M’ is a document that lists the contents of a container.
