PRESS RELEASE: Stop playing politics with Abuja bomb Blast!

We, the members of the Transform Nigeria Movement, TNM, are appalled by the recent bombings in Nigeria, and extend our prayers and condolences at this time of mourning to the families of those that lost their loved ones in the dastardly act.

TNM abhors all forms of violence and thus condemn the bombing in its entirety. We call on the Federal government to thoroughly investigate the act and arrest and prosecute those behind the bombings. No one should be spared no matter how highly placed so that such unfortunate incident will not occur again.

Transform Nigeria Movement has keenly watched the events unfolding after this attack. We are concerned that the politicization of this terrorist attack will further divide our country and we appeal to the general public to give the government time to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to justice.

A terrible event has occurred and we need to focus on catching the culprits. TNM is concerned that hasty conclusions, speculations and politicization of the October 1, 2010 attack on Nigeria are dangerous and may interfere with the investigation. This may not lead to a credible arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of this crime and further undermine national security.

We counsel all our political and national leaders to be temperate and to be sober in their pronouncements during this very trying period.

Transform Nigeria Movement has not endorsed any political candidate, but the movement thinks that the call on President Jonathan Goodluck to resign or be impeached is premature and unwarranted.

For the sake of unity and peace of our country, we call on the North, South, East and West to work together and foster lasting peace and progress. We should learn from the experience of the Americans who rallied around President George Bush after the 9/11 terrorist attack.

TNM cautions that there now appears to be two factions of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND; one that has accepted the amnesty programme and the other led by Henry Okah that has bluntly refused to embrace amnesty.

As shown in the Al Jazeera documentary, this faction appears to be stockpiling arms and intent to carry out further atrocities as demonstrated by the Warri and Abuja Bombings. We call on the Federal Government to investigate and act quickly to nip this looming danger in the bud.

TNM equally notes the escalating criminal violence and kidnappings in Southern Nigeria and what appears to be a resurgence of Boko Haram war against the political class in Northern Nigeria.

We call on all Nigerians to support the investigating agencies in their efforts to uncover the perpetrators of these heinous crimes. Anyone with information should volunteer what they know as soon as possible.

All should give their utmost, indeed our very best for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria.

Signed:
Mr Samaila Leeman
