2011: I deserve second term, says Eferakeya

Vice Chairman, Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, Senator Adego Eferakeya, Sunday presented his ambition to top leaders of the Okpe nation with a simple and direct call on the people of Okpe kingdom to unite, speak with one voice and strongly resist any political manoeuvre that will deter him from continuing in the senate come 2011. He also urged the people to reject other aspirants in the Delta Central senatorial race.

Eferakeya, who was at the headquarters of the Okpe Union Worldwide to seek the endorsement of the people for a second term, said he desired a second term to be a high-ranking senator and to complete his ongoing projects.

Reviewing his activities in the senate from June 5, 2007 to date, Eferakeya said he contributed vibrantly during debates on the floor of the senate, particularly the senate resolution that led to the installation of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President, attempted bombing of a USA Delta Airline, the amendment to the motion on the Threat of Drought in Nigeria in 2009 Cropping Season, Electoral Reform, Report of the Committee on Sports and Social Development on the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Bill, the Prevalence of Lassa Fever in Nigeria, the National Climate Change Commission Bill 2008 , the fate of the people of Bakassi, poor state of safety in the nation's  airport and the increasing rate of drop calls due to inefficient GSM telecom network.

I visited the eight (8) Local Government Councils to consult during the Constitutional Amendment exercise. I convened a meeting of members of the National Assembly (NASS) from Delta Central to discuss Constitutional Amendment. I also convened a meeting of members of NASS from Delta State to hear their views on Constitutional Amendment. With the help of my 'think tank' (Urhobos), I submitted a Memorandum to the Senate Committee on the Review of 1999 Constitution of the Federation for the creation of Ethiope (Urhobo) State.

Eferakeya, who listed ongoing Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Projects in Delta Central, said Urhobo Contractors submitted pre-qualification application through him and many were successful.

'I got forms for twenty-one applicants to Federal Civil Service (in the 8 LGAs) and they were submitted by me (awaiting interview). I sent six (6) participants under the auspices of NDDC to train in Fishery, Piggery and Poultry at Songhai-Delta, Amukpe. I have financed the participants to register as a Cooperative Society and awaiting Federal Government Loan through the Banks. Over one hundred and fifty (150) recommendations and about thirty reported back that they were employed or won the contracts (supplies). I submitted to NDDC the Aghalokpe/Boboroku bridge/road project across River Ethiope. Appropriated in the 2009 NDDC budget to the sum of One Hundred Million Naira (N100, 000,000.00)'.

He listed a Bill for an Act to Establish a National Court of Arbitration for Sports as a Court with Special Powers and for Matters connected thereto 2008: (First Reading), a Bill for an Act to Establish the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) Tests for Human Identification, the National DNA Databank, the National DNA Bureau and other Matters connected therewith 2010 (public hearing held 18 th March, 2010), a Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal Bushfire Control Agency and to Provide for other Matters Connected Therewith 2009 (First Reading taken) and a Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun and for Other Matters Connected Thereto 2009 (First Reading taken) as bills solely sponsored by him.

On constituency projects, Eferakeya said he gave N278 million to the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun for the construction of Faculty of Engineering and Health Centre Buildings. He also said he constructed Police Administrative Building in Aghalokpe, Okpe LGA, Orogun Town, Ughelli North LGA and Eku Town, Ethiope East LGA for the sum of N 138, 000,000.00.

'I spent N100 million in the Amukpe Flood/Erosion Control Project. I gave one hundred and fifty motorbikes to Delta Central Youths. I donated a 10-Seater Mitsubishi L300 Bus to Physically Challenged Persons in Delta Central Senatorial District and a Photocopier machine to one Mr. Mike Ukpu.  My protest to the late President, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua elicited the inclusion of Mrs. E. R. Ejenavi as a member of Governing Council Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun'
