ABUJA, Oct 1, (THEWILL) - The Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organization Thursday expressed dismay that in spite of President Goodluck Jonathan’s clear articulation of the issue of zoning and the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the matter, Vice-President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has continued his campaign of calumny aimed at impugning the character and integrity of the President.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the Organization, Mr. Sully Abu stated this in reaction to the claim by Atiku that President Jonathan could not be "trusted with the PDP mandate in 2011" because of his interpretation of the party’s position on zoning.

Mr. Abu said Atiku’s comment on the president’s personality was rather curious given his own antecedents and the fact that he was only recently admitted into the PDP after long running battles with his local Adamawa State chapter of the party.

"The Goodluck/Sambo Organization wishes to state categorically that the PDP zoning issue has been resolved by the party and enjoins all loyal members of the party to respect that position and stop using this as a diversion from tackling the real issues that affect the Nigerian people", he said.

He called on all aspirants for the 2011 presidential election rather than engage in diversionary tactics to conduct their campaigns based on what they can do for the country and its people," he said

Meanwhile Zonal Coordinators of the Jonathan/Sambo President Campaign also met on Thursday with the Directorate at the Campaign Headquarters in Abuja where far-reaching decisions were taken.

Amongst the Coordinators present were the Governors of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke; his counterparts, Alhaji Isa Yuguda (Bauchi); Otunba Gbenga Daniel (Ogun State) and Governor Gabriel Suswam (Benue State) as well as the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Chibudom Nwuche.

The meeting was presided over by the Director General of the Jonathan/ Sambo Campaign Organisation, Dr. Dalhatu Sarki Tafida.

A statement released by the Campaign Organisation and signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Sully Abu, disclosed that the meeting deliberated on plans to create zonal, state, and local government Contact and Mobilization Committees in order to accommodate key stakeholders and political leaders.

Abu said the development has become urgent in view of the overwhelming interest and enthusiasm generated by the President’s declaration of September18, 2010 in Abuja, putting himself forward as a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the forthcoming presidential elections.
