SUNNY NEJI JOINS COSON BOARD
Multiple award winning singing sensation, Mr. Sunny Neji has been appointed to the Board of the nation's sole government approved copyright collective management organization for musical works and sound recordings, Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON). Mr. Nejiâ's appointment was unanimously adopted by the Board of COSON at its meeting of Thursday, September 23, 2010. The appointment is in accordance with Article 58 of COSON'S Articles of Association. He will serve out the term of Chief GAD Tabansi who passed on during the year
According to COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji, Sunny Neji's appointment is in recognition of Sunny's intellect, cool headedness and balanced world view. In the choice of Sunny Neji, the Board took into consideration the need to carry along every shade of opinion and every age group in the industry. Besides which is the fact that Sunny has shown a significant understanding of the issues and a commitment to ensuring the success of the important unity project that COSON represents.
Sunny Neji who used to be a member of the unapproved MCSN hails from Ogoja in Cross River State. He attended Government College, Ikorodu, Lagos and Yaba College of Technology. His active involvement in music began at an early age. As a boy he participated in cultural performances in his hometown Ishibori in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Honoured with the NMA Artiste of the Decade Award in 2007, Sunny Neji's simple persona, pleasant aura and humble character plus his outstanding endowments in terms of music, make him an irresistible package as a performing and recording artiste. He is determined to remain one of the greatest music icons to emerge from the citadel of creativity in Nigeria. His versatility in singing and songwriting is remarkable.
On being informed of his appointment, Sunny Neji expressed happiness at the opportunity to contribute to making COSON the number one CMO in Africa. He promised to use his position to ensure that there is transparency and equity at COSON at all times and called on all music copyright owners who are not yet members of COSON to join the society without delay saying that his appointment is proof that that there is room for everyone in COSON.
