PDP Ticket Is Like Zimbabwe Dollars - Senator Uzamere
ABUJA, Sept 29, (THEWILL) - The rush for the ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been likened to the rush for Zimbabwe dollars. A decamped Senator, Ehigie Uzamere made the declaration today on the floor of the Senate.
Uzamere who decamped from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) further said in a letter to the Senate, read by the Senate President, David Mark that the crisis in Edo PDP made him switch party to enable him successfully pursue his political ambition.
In the letter, Uzamere said Edo PDP over time has been embroiled in crisis, adding that the only way to achieve his political ambition would be to move to a comfort zone where his quest could be realized.
Reacting to the allegation of crisis in Edo PDP, Senator Odion Ogbesian (PDP Edo Central) and Senator Yisa Briamoh (PDP Edo North) said there is no crisis whatsoever in the party, adding that the party is united and intact to the best of their knowledge.
Senator Jubril Aminu blamed the unfortunate situation of decamping on the parliament, maintaining that when the Committee on Constitutional Review introduced amendment to discourage cross carpeting, it was killed on the floor of the Senate.
Senate Olurunnibe Mamora described the movement of Senator Uzamere from PDP to ACN as a good decision, insisting that he should be allowed to take a decision that is best for him as a citizen of the country.
But however, Senator Ayogu Eze said Senator Uzamere should be saved from hanging himself because joining the opposition party is a self decision noting that there is no crisis in the PDP national headquarters.
Senate Basil Ewa-Henshaw explained that what he understood from the action of Uzamere was that there are fundamental issues the Senator was no longer comfortable with in the PDP and which prompted him to move to another party where he could exercise his right, where his rights would not be trampled on.
