Spanco Forays into Africa

Nairobi, Kenya – Spanco Ltd. today announced that they have forayed into Africa by putting together a comprehensive strategy to tap the BPO opportunities within the African continent. Spanco BPO, the BPO business of Spanco Group, is spearheading the foray under the leadership of Pravin Kumar, CEO and Director of the BPO business. It has already started implementing a Call Centre in one of the countries in East Africa and has identified locations in Nigeria and another East African country. It plans to achieve a size of about 2000 people by the end of March, 2011.

Spanco has been in the BPO business for over a decade and today is one of the largest BPO companies catering of Telecom, Banking and eGovernance segments in India. It has more than 10000+ people and operates across 4 continents. It has a strong India Onshore presence with three of the top 5 Telco's and the largest MNC bank in the world as its customers catering to variety of services ranging from customer service to debt collection and tech support. Spanco has built strong onshore business in Middle East with presence in Qatar and Oman. It also has an onshore presence in UK and US and does offshore BPO business out of their facility in Mumbai catering to global customers. The various entities work cohesively to provide best service and location mix thus offering a cost effective, high quality and scalable solution.

Spanco's strategy in Africa is based on bringing cost effective, scalable solutions to meet the needs of a highly aspirational Continent. Spanco will build world class Contact Centers. For the BPO business it is looking at leveraging local capabilities and expects to partner with companies who have deep rooted understating of local geography and customer needs, through their existing reach. Spanco intends to start with Telecom, Banking and E Governance segments.

Spanco has drawn up a detailed plan to leverage its domain and segment specific expertise and the large potential English and French speaking talent pool in Africa to provide high quality, cost effective call centre and BPO services to the Clients in Africa and to its Global Clients all over the world.

Spanco plans to invest about USD 20 million during next 3 years for creating 5000 seat infrastructure employing about 10,000 people across the continent. It plans to start the activity in about 7 countries including Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, DRC and Tanzania.
