FCT Authority Issues Query To Staff Accused Of Leaking Documents On Wike’s Land Scandal
The Federal Capital Territory Administration has issued a query to Hassan Mairiga, a staff member of the Federal Capital Development Authority, who was accused of leaking documents exposing FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s land allocation to his sons.
The query dated July 4, was signed by Uzo Udegbunam, acting Director of Land Administration.
Mairiga, a Land Resource Officer 1, was accused of “Unauthorized disclosure of official information to unauthorized persons,” breach of the oath of secrecy and undermining the integrity and confidentiality of his office.”
The query stated that Mairiga’s “actions, if proven, amount to serious misconduct and gross violation of your obligations as a public servant which is detrimental to the image of the service.”
“You are hereby requested to make a written representation within 24 hours why disciplinary action should not be taken against you.
“Note that failure to make a representation within the stipulated time shall attract further disciplinary measures.”
Former presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the query issued to Mairiga, describing it as “a clear case of abuse of power and intimidation of civil servants who dare to expose the rot in the system.”
“Rather than investigate the corruption, the FCDA is persecuting the whistleblower,” Sowore said.
Mairiga was arrested and detained in police custody for eight days on claims that he leaked documents exposing how Wike allocated hectares of land to his sons, Jordan and Joaquin. He was released on Friday after the intervention of Sowore.
