100-Bed Specialist Hospital for Ekiti

A 100 bed specialist hospital with state-of-the-art Medical equipment is to be established in Ekiti State as part of the new University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

The Hospital is to be set up in collaboration with the Kosin University Gospel Hospital, of Korea and Technical Management of the St. Georges University Medical Centre, Beirut in Lebanon.

Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Wale Ojo-Lanre said in a statement issued today that the hospital was one of the gains of the recent 10 day visit of Governor Segun Oni to Korea and Lebanon in search of International collaboration with investors in the education, health and Industrial Sectors of Ekiti State.

At the Kosin Hospital, while endorsing the memorandum of understanding

(MOU) between the State and the 125 year old Centre of excellence in Cardiac and Cancer treatment, Engr. Oni said the decision to set up hospital was in response to demand for well managed and equipped hospital in the Country.

He said recent statistics available to him indicated that over 57,000 top level Nigerians sought medical treatment in Saudi Arabia and India Hospitals in 2009, adding that this constituted a huge drain on the Nigerian economy and that it was his government desire to provide a state of the art hospital in the State, to provide alternative to rich Nigerians.

He said government was encouraged in this investment because of the recent experience in the State where the opthalmological centre, opened in January this year in Ado Ekiti had attracted over 100,000 patients from all over West Africa. He said several hitherto blind persons have regained their sight at the hospital, which is a joint effort of the State Government and Cuban Government.

“Any investment we make for the good health of our people is a worth while one, and with what we have experienced in our world class eye centre, we are committed to establishing another health centre of excellence in the teaching hospital that will service the upper class of the society, who can indeed pay for their health service” Oni said.

Also speaking, the President of the Kosin Gospel University Hospital, Prof. Sung Cho, said the Hospital Management was impressed with the vision and commitment of the Governor, and pledged to assist the State in the enhancement of the infrastructure, equipment and human resource of the Hospital.

Receiving the Governor at St. Georges University Medical Centre, Beirut, Lebanon, the Vice Chairman of the Hospital Mr. Mofid Barakat, said the hospital has established a record of excellence in providing top range health services to people from all over the World. He said the 200 bed hospital was noted for its Competence in medical service administration, and would assist in the area of equipment, and capacity building for Hospital Staff in Ekiti State.

The Hospital Management and the State Governor entered into an MOU, which provided for exchange of equipment personnel between the two organizations.

On the industrial front, the Governor also met with investors group under the auspices of CET Holdings of Korea for the rehabilitation of the Burnt Bricks factory at Ire-Ekiti. The Investors group agreed to send a team of investors to the State in October for the purpose of ascertaining the state of the equipments and the new investments required for commencement of production of red bricks within 6 months.
