Gunmen Kill Two Students, Abduct Two Others Near Anambra Federal Polytechnic

Two students have been confirmed dead after a brutal assault around the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra State.

It was learnt that four other persons were wounded in the attack which occurred on Thursday evening around 8:40 p.m. at Total and Tipper junctions.

The attack was reportedly carried out by unidentified gunmen who stormed the area on a motorcycle and in a black Lexus 350 SUV without license plates.

The armed men reportedly opened fire indiscriminately on unsuspecting students and bystanders in the area.

Some students of the institution who spoke to newsmen on Friday said the attack left two students dead and four others injured.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the fatalities. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that two victims, including a female, are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

“Sadly, two deaths have been recorded, and two others were allegedly abducted,” Ikenga said.

"We are acting on credible intelligence and eyewitness accounts to track down the hoodlums."

According to him, the police have deployed a heavy joint security team led by the Area Commander of Aguata to the area, and a manhunt for the attackers is underway.

Police authorities also called for calm and assured the public that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
