Presidency Averts Crisis, Deploys Security To Kaduna, Jos

ABUJA, Sept 25, (THEWILL) - The Federal Government has approved intense security surveillance in Jos and Kaduna in order to avert ethic and religious crisis, which security reports indicate may have been hatched at the weekend.

This came on the heels of reports of arms build up in some sections of the north, even as security operatives had reportedly seized a consignment containing arms and ammunition meant to be delivered in Plateau State which has, of late, become the hottest bed of bloodletting crises in Nigeria.

THEWILL gathered from reliable sources that the presidency had covertly ordered the deployment of security operatives to be on guard in Kaduna and Plateau states, acting on Security Reports detailing plans by some fanatics to cause mayhem in the two states, more so at a time political activities are towering in all parts of the country.

Although, it could not be established whether the plan to cause violence in the cities of Kaduna and Jos had either political or religious undertone, the government is said to have only acted on competent report to deploy security operatives to the two states on surveillance.

According to the Presidency source, who opted to remain anonymous, "What seemed to have confirmed the special attention being placed on Kaduna and Plateau states by the federal government was a text message being circulated in Kaduna to inform the public about plans by some individuals to create religious crisis in the state. You know the telephone text advised the residents to be at alert for certain".

Our correspondent further learnt that the text message had also been obtained by the top security chiefs in Abuja, a reason they were said to have intensified plans in mounting surveillance over Kaduna and Jos with a view to nipping any possible insurgence in the bud.

The GSM text which was obtained by THEWILL reads, "Pls intercede for Kaduna and the northern states there is a strong threatening from some people to wake up in the night and start killing innocent people. This is not rumours as one of this involved in the plan told me of the plan which was discussed. Please forward to others."

Recently, there have been reports that members of the Boko Haram group, a violent Islamic sect, would have disrupted the peaceful order in Kaduna State given their plans to attack some strategic places in the state capital during the last Sallah break, but for the quick intervention of the Kaduna State Police Command.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Mr. Tambari Yabo Muhammmad had confirmed the planned attach by the sect at a public function in Kaduna.

Part of the pro-active initiatives by the federal government to keep violence off the streets of Plateau State was recorded lately when the military units in the state put together social activities including a marathon race for the indigenes which cut across ethnic and religious divides.

During the events which was well attended by religious and community leaders drawn from all parts of the state, Muslims and Christians were programmed to exchange pleasantries and affection by openly embracing and promising to henceforth appreciate the value of dialogue and togetherness in their day to day living in the state.
