Akwa Ibom Govt. to reposition its Airport for Regional, International Operations

Akwa Ibom Government has reiterated its determination to strategically re-position Akwa Ibom International Airport for regional and international operations.

The airport that commenced its inaugural flight on September 23, last year boasts local flights from Uyo to Abuja and from Uyo to Lagos'

Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill O. Akpabio while declaring his intent for re-election in 2011 general elections Monday hinted that in his second term, the state government would commence full operations of Maintenance, Repairs and Overhaul (MRO).

In addition, the Governor said the government would commence an international cargo from Dubai and other countries to Uyo and complete international main terminal building for the Gulf of Guinea region.

 On the Akwa Ibom University, he said the university will soon resume classes for students following the recent signing of the university's law.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Occasion, Senator Anietie Okon lauded the governor for his vision and aspiration to bring about a greater Akwa Ibom in his first term and hoped that the governor would do more for the state in his second term.

Okon berated some people he tagged misguided who thought the electorate would be swayed by their deception to vote against Akpabio despite his high performance.

He declared that there was no opposition in the state to jeopardize Akpabio's interest in running and winning and enjoined the electorate not to succumb to the antics of deceptive elements.

The Chairman of the Occasion announced that after electricity supply and free education, the governor would embark on triangular development of the state, calling on Akwa Ibom people vote en masse for the governor in the next year's election.

Senator Effiong D. Bob representing Akwa Ibom North East in the Senate congratulated the governor for seeking re-election and re-affirmed their support for his aspiration.

Obong Rita Akpan, a one-time Minister of Women Affairs pledged the readiness of the women to work for actualization of the governor's re-election.

Dr. Edet Amana, a one-time Presidential hopeful under the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) lauded governor's effort in the development renaissance of the stressed the need for the people to vote for him again.
