ABUJA, Sept 20, (THEWILL) - The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Usman Bayero Nafada today declared his intention to contest the governorship of Gombe State in the 2011 general election.

Nafada, who made his intention known today shortly after purchasing the forms for the expression of interest and the governorship nomination at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP headquarters in Abuja said he was in the race to offer selfless service and take the state to greater heights.

After picking the forms, the Deputy Speaker proceeded to Gombe, the capital of the state where he formally declared his interest before a mammoth crowd.

The Deputy Speaker, who flew into Gombe aboard a Presidential jet, was accompanied by Senator Abdullahi Idris and members of the House of Representatives and party elders from Gombe State, flaunted the forms before his supporters calling for their support and assuring them of good governance if elected.

Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, to the Deputy Speaker, Hammeed Bello, in a statement quoted Nafada as saying that: "We want to assure you that time has come for us to show interest in the governorship of our state in 2011 so that we can collectively steer our affairs to greatness.

"I want to assure all the sons and daughters of Gombe State also that we have made elaborate consultations with all parties that needed to be consulted, and we will continue to make further consultations so that we can entrench a government that will be collective, responsive and responsible to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.

"I call on all of you to join us so that we can individually and collectively build a state of our dream and consolidate on the efforts of the past by improving on infrastructure, health, human capital development, education, information technology and agriculture among others."

Among dignitaries on ground to receive Nafada at the airport were the minister of culture and tourism, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed and PDP leaders from the local government areas in the state.
