Ward, LG Congresses: PDP Adjusts Time Table For Sale Of Forms

ABUJA, Sept 20, (THEWILL) - New dates have been announced by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ward and Local Government Congresses for the election of delegates for the party primaries.

With the new adjustment to the party’s timetable for the primaries, the Ward Congresses for the election of three ad hoc delegates would now hold on September 25th instead of the September 23, while the Local Government Congresses for the election of national delegates has been shifted from September 25, 2010 to September 27, 2010.

Also, the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for presidential, National Assembly, gubernatorial and State Assembly primaries have been extended by 24 hours.

The National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali, today conveyed the outcome of the resolution reached at Sunday’s meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party adding that purchase of forms for all elective office could be obtained at the National Secretariat of the party in addition to all the earlier designated centres.

Alkali said the decision to include the national headquarters of the party was to guide against exclusion of party members who are interested in the exercise as was the case in the immediate past dispensation in the party.

He also emphasized that the fee for the delegates nomination form has been pegged at only N100 warning that any sales outlet that sold the form above the NWC approved fee would be penalized.

"Ward Congresses for the election of three (3) Ad-Hoc Delegates earlier scheduled for Tuesday September 21, are now to hold nationwide on Saturday September 25, 2010.

"Similarly, Local Government Area Congresses for the election of one (1) National Delegate per LGA previously fixed for September 23 have been shifted to Monday September 27, 2010. This is to allow aspirants to obtain and return their nomination forms for the congresses without undue stress.


"The NWC approved N100 (One Hundred Naira Only) as nomination fees for both Ward Ad-Hoc and National Delegate nomination forms, payable in cash at either the at the PDP State Secretariats, FCT PDP State Secretariat or the National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. The decision to include the National Secretariat for obtaining and return of Ad-Hoc Nomination forms is informed by the commitment of the Party leadership to safeguard against the exclusion of any member at any level from fully participating in the forth coming exercises.

Houses of Assembly, National Assembly (House of Representatives and Senate) Gubernatorial and Presidential elections have now been extended to 24 hours (but not beyond 24 hours) before the screening deadlines for the various offices as set out in the time-table.

"The National Working Committee wishes to reiterate that no State Chapter should charge any additional fees to aspirants regarding the purchase of Expression of Interests forms and Nomination forms outside the prescribed fees as approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC)," the resolution added.
