THE MAN GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan was born on November 20, 1957 in Otueke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. A Christian Ijaw, he is married to Dame Patience Faka Jonathan and has two children.

Jonathan who holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Zoology with Second Class Honours, Upper Division, started his working career as an Education Inspector. He later picked up a lecturing job at Rivers State College of Education. He also worked as an Environmental Protection Officer before he finally joined the murky waters of Nigeria politics in1998 as a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Also a Master Science degree holder in Hydrobiology/Fisheries biology, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Zoology from the University of Port Harcourt, Jonathan was sworn in as the deputy governor of Bayelsa State on May 29, 1999 having contested and won the gubernatorial election with Diepreye Alamieyeseigha who emerged the governor on the platform of PDP.

Following a turbulent twist in political events in the state, which led to the impeachment of Alamieyeseigha as the governor, he was sworn in as the state governor on December 9, 2005. He held on to the position until May 28, 2007.
