A former Commissioner in Kaduna State during the Nasir El-Rufai administration, Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, has been arrested by security operatives suspected to be police officers in Kaduna.

While details of his arrest and trial remain unclear, sources close to him, who requested anonymity, claimed he was taken to court by security operatives and later moved to a correctional facility.

“Jafaru was taken into custody around 10:45 a.m. on Thursday after leaving his house. He was later taken to court and subsequently remanded.

“No reason was given for his arrest. He was among the six former commissioners who left the All Progressives Congress (APC) after El-Rufai resigned from the party,” a source said.

“We do not know the reason for his arrest or the charges against him, but he was taken by uniformed security personnel and moved to court. We believe he is now in prison,” the source added.

The Kaduna State Police Command has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the arrest.

Jafaru Ibrahim Sani served at various times as Commissioner for Local Government; Education and Environment in the state.

He was the one nominated by El-Rufai to President Bola Tinubu to replace him as Minister in 2023 after the Senate withheld his confirmation and those of two others, citing security reports from the State Security Service for the action.

However, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna kicked against his nomination
