LG BOSS SEEKS CREATION OF ADDITIONAL WARDS, POLLING UNITS

The Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Dr. Samuel Adedayo, on Thursday called on the state Independent Electoral Commission to create additional 12 wards and also increase the number of polling units by 250 to ensure adequate representation of the area.

Adedayo, who made this appeal when the LASIEC committee on delineation of wards and creation of additional polling booths visited his community, said the increase was necessary because the community was one of the most populous in Lagos state.

He, however, lamented that the council's representation at the state and local government levels were not commensurate with the population

Adedayo said, 'We expect a maximum of 14 wards and minimum of 12. We also expect 250 polling units, an additional of 100 to what we already have. We are expecting about 250. From the inspection of the local government we have done, you can see that these people deserve to be well represented at every level of government, bearing in mind that democracy is about people and population.

Responding to the requests, LASIEC's official in charge of delineation and creation of additional polling booths, Mr. Mabinuori Olalekan said the commission was aware that Lagos State was the most populous and that was why they embarked on the exercise.
