Many Feared Killed As Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Chibok Communities

Bandits suspectedly belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction of Boko Haram, have launched a brutal attack on two communities in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno state.

It was learnt that many people were feared killed in the attack as the bandits also set numerous homes, and a church ablaze.

Sources confided in the press that the attackers looted food supplies and livestock from the communities.

One of the residents said that the insurgents came into Tsikarkur village around 2 pm on Sunday, shooting indiscriminately and burning houses.

The source added that two siblings were among those who lost their lives during the attack on the village, which is few kilometres away from Chibok, headquarters of Chibok LGA.

Another community in Chibok LGA, Zillang was also reportedly invaded by gunmen on Monday night.

One of the sources said, “The attacks started around 2 pm on Sunday in a village called Tsikarkur where they killed an unknown number of villagers including two brothers.

“Last night, around 11:30 pm, in my house in Chibok, I started hearing heavy gunshots. The sounds were coming from another village close to Chibok called Zillang.

“The villagers noticed the gunmen on time and quickly informed Nigerian Army. Our gallant soldiers with the support of vigilantes quickly mobilised to the village and engaged the terrorists. The gun battle lasted from 11 pm to 4 am. I don’t know the number of casualties now but many houses and properties were destroyed.”

News of the attack came hours after the Borno State Government confirmed the killing of 40 farmers in a terrorist attack on Dumba community, near Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area.

Governor Babagana Zulum, while condemning the attack on Sunday by gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, also disclosed that many, who escaped the attack were still being tracked to be reunited with their families.
