The American Human Rights Council (AJHRC-USA) supports the US’s declaring the violence in Sudan a genocide.

This recognitione is important in many ways. It increases pressure on the international community to put an end to the Sudanese civil war. It also has consequences for the perpetrators of the genocidal acts in Sudan. In the context of the genocide in Gaza, we are troubled by the message the Sudan genocide recognition sends.

The recognition of the genocide reality in Sudan while ignoring the existence of genocide in Gaza exposes the US to charges of hypocrisy and the politicization of international law for political ends. There is no doubt that there is an ongoing genocide in Gaza.

The ICC has charged Israeli leaders with war crimes and crimes against humanity. Not only does the US continue to deny the genocide reality in Gaza, but the US is also providing the funds, weapons, and diplomatic cover that allows it to continue. This is not the way to promote human rights and international law. The US is undermining human rights and international law by subjecting clear legal determinations to political expediency, American domestic politics electoral concerns, and special interest donor demands.

“Human rights are about human beings, regardless of their background,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “We are appalled by the blatant and shameless inconsistency of Joe Biden and Anthony Blinken,” added Hamad. “The leader of the free world cannot condemn one genocide while fully supporting another,” concluded Hamad.
