AHRC Welcomes The ICC’s Issuance Of Arrest Warrants For Netanyahu And Gallant, Disappointed But Not Surprised By The US Veto Of The UN Ceasefire Resolution:

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins the peace-loving worldwide in welcoming the International Criminal Court’s issuance of arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Gallant. Both Israeli leaders are charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity for the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

The ICC charges come on the heel of yet another U.S. veto against a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. It is shameful that the failed Biden administration continues to support and defend Israel’s genocide in Gaza and war on Lebanon.

The ICC's decision was issued despite all forms of political pressure that unsuccessfully aimed to scare the ICC officials and staff into not charging Israeli officials. The ICC judges courageously stood up to the pressure and issued the warrants.

The warrants are of historical significance. Israel has long been able to get away with all kinds of violations of law and crimes. This is the first time Israel is facing real accountability for its crimes. The US should refrain from any adverse action against the ICC.

“No one is above the law, individuals or countries,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “With the ICC’s charges, there is hope that Palestinians will receive a measure of justice for the many crimes Israel has been committing against them for decades,” added Hamad.
