AHRC Welcomes The Abu Gharib Prison Abuse Judgment

By AmericaAmerican Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA)

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) salutes attorney Shereef Akeel and his team on the recent victory in the Abu Ghraib abuse case.

It has been a long fight for justice for the victims of abuse. The 2003 US invasion of Iraq caused so many deaths, suffering, and destruction in Iraq. One of the atrocities committed against the Iraqi people is the case of the atrocities committed in the Abu Ghraib prison. The jury’s verdict brings a measure of justice to the victims of the war.

The jury found U.S. defense contractor CACI Premier Technology Inc., a Virginia-based firm liable for the abuses against three of the Abu Ghraib detainees. The jury awarded the victims forty-two million dollars.

AHRC salutes attorney Akeel and the legal team for their tenacity in pursuing the case and congratulates them on this resounding victory.

“We have known attorney Shereef Akeel for decades, he is a great friend and a longtime supporter,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “Shereef is an outstanding lawyer who is passionate about justice and who zealously represents his clients,” added Hamad.” The verdict is a victory for the legal team, the clients, and, indeed, for justice itself,” concluded Hamad.
