Balat also dismissed the purported capacity of the North to determine who becomes the president of Nigeria as a myth. He advised those who are peddling the myth to desist from doing so.

Senator Balat, who also said the South-south is the 'goose that lays the golden eggs', also said the region has helped in maintaining the unity of the country, especially during the Civil War. In addition, the region has been the political ally of the North since the first republic, adding that the North should reciprocate by supporting one of their own for the presidency this time around.
