LP Crisis: Peter Obi Calls For Calm Over Court Judgement

By Damilare Adeleye

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, has called on members of the party to remain calm and patient as leaders continue to engage in discussions and consultations over the Federal High Court judgement that affirmed Mr Julius Abure as the party's national chairman.

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja had on Tuesday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Julius Abure as the substantive Chairman of the Labour Party.

Justice Nwite in the ruling validated the Abure-led leadership of the party.

He also validated the March 2024 Nnewi convention of the Party that produced the national leadership, while issuing an order compelling the INEC to recognise the leadership.

Reacting to the judgement, the party's former presidential candidate advised members of the party to remain focused and must not allow the current development to divert them from addressing the pressing issues affecting the people today.

He maintained that their goal is to emerge stronger and more unified and standing together as one united front.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra state stated, "Yesterday, Governor Alex Otti @alexottiofr and I, along with the Caretaker Chairman and Secretary of the Labour Party, convened to discuss and review recent developments, including the judgment delivered by an Abuja High Court on the same day.

"I urge all members of the Labour Party to remain calm and patient as we continue to engage in discussions and consultations."

He added, "Our goal is to emerge stronger and more unified, standing together as one united front.

“We must not allow this to divert us from addressing the pressing issues affecting our people today.

“We have always known that the task of creating a new Nigeria that is possible will not come without challenges.”
