Shortly after his coronation, Oba Adesida said his emergence as Deji was ordained by God, adding, 'My selection followed Akure traditional procedures. Due process was strictly followed'.

He promised to partner with the state government to make Akure a millennium city.

He added that his mission was to unite the kingmakers and the over 56 traditional chiefs who are members of the Deji-in-council towards the development of the town.

'I will summon a meeting of kingmakers to assure them that we are all one and pledge my commitment to always seek their advice on how to move the town forward,' he added.

Oba Adebiyi Adesida was born in 1950 to the Adesida royal family. He is a graduate of Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan.  He is married with four children.
