KANO, Sept 05, (THEWILL) - Former military dictator, and presidential aspirant, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida wants the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to clearly explain its position on the zoning arrangement the party adopted for the party’s ticket to the2011 presidential election.

Babangida told THEWILL in Kano on Friday that, it is ambiguous for the party to say it believes in the zoning deal and at the same time rule that Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, who is from the South, could contest in the poll if he wanted to.

According to him, the PDP as a party has laid down rules and regulations which ought to be adhered to and respected by all members irrespective of his/her position, explaining that the zoning arrangement was one of the principles governing the affairs of the party and must be respected at all times.

"The party must explain itself on its stand, because it is ambiguous to say that every person will contest the presidency as well as also accepting or believing in the concept of zoning, it must clarify its stand", he declared.

"Zoning must be respected by all member of the party as it is enshrined in its constitution. The party has the right to formulate rules and regulations for its members which should be respected by all", he declared, saying the party is superior to any other individual.

Babangida said the position of the PDP leadership on zoning has no clear meaning and could be given all sorts of interpretation.
