LACK OF REGULATION BANE OF PAPER INDUSTRY – CIPPON

By NBF News

The moribund state of the paper mills industry in Nigeria has been traced to lack of regulation.

This position was canvassed by the President/Chairman-in-Council, Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria, Mr. Wahab Lawal.

Lawal, who spoke during a courtesy visit to the head office of Punch Nigeria Limited on Thursday, said that there was currently no good paper mill in the country because of the fact that there was no regulation of the industry.

He, however, noted that CIPPON was putting modalities in place to ensure the full revival of the industry, which he noted was capable of contributing positively to the development of the Nigerian economy.

According to him, 'It is clear that the paper mill industry in Nigeria suffered decline because there was no regulation in the industry, that is why we do not have paper mills in Nigeria. What happened to all the paper mills we had in this country?

'So, CIPPON, as the regulator of printing in Nigeria, has taken it upon itself to go round to see what can be done to revive the industry.'
