The Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Dr Sani Shehu, made this known yesterday during the oath taking ceremony of 97 medical students of the institution who qualified as medical doctors.

Dr Shehu said the fact that the university had reached the peak of its admission quota of 120 students as given by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) made it necessary to upgrade its Faculty of Medicine to a College of Medicine.

'When the Faculty of Medicine is upgraded to a College of Medicine, it would give us the flexibility of increasing this quota of admitting only 120 students per session. On this note, we want to solicit the co-operation of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, and all that matter in achieving this objective,' Dr Shehu said. He advised the 97 newly commissioned medical doctors to engage in support training and services for them to specialize in their various areas.
