AHRC Denounces the Biden Administration’s Vetoing of the UN Security Council Resolution Calling for a Ceasefire in Gaza:
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins all peace-loving people around the world in condemning the US veto at the UN of a ceasefire resolution submitted by Algeria.
For the third time, the Biden Administration votes for the continuation of the Gaza genocide. The US is practically alone in the world and in the Security Council. Thirteen council members voted for the ceasefire resolution, the US closest ally on the Council, the United Kingdom, abstained. At the General Assembly, UN members overwhelmingly voted for a ceasefire.
This veto is a slap on the face of all humanitarian calls for a ceasefire. This third veto is further proof that the Biden administration is not only supporting the genocide, it is a full partner allowing it to continue despite the wishes of the international community.
It is truly appalling to witness the Biden administration continue its callous and depraved heart disregard of basic norms of decency as to the Palestinians, let alone international law. It is clear that the Biden administration sees no value in Palestinians' lives. The level of devastation in Gaza is staggering and has shocked the world.
Two weeks ago, the Biden Administration desperately arranged a meeting with Arab and Muslim American leaders in Michigan and other swing states. The one prime request that was put on the table was a ceasefire. We have been skeptical of this outreach. This third veto confirms our skepticism and is a slap in the face of those who engaged with the Biden team. The veto is the real measure of the value that the Biden team puts on the Arab and Muslim American vote. It is important to note that Arab and Muslim Americans in 2020 voted overwhelmingly for Biden on account of his promises of a foreign policy based on international law and respect for human rights. Gaza has been a great betrayal.
“We salute all the countries, which is almost all the world, which stood with the Palestinians, who voted for a ceasefire whether at the Security Council or at the General Assembly,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “The moral bankruptcy, callousness and depravity of the Biden administration as to the Palestinians is truly mind boggling,” concluded Hamad.
