Kano Man Killed Boy With Stick - Police

KANO, August 22, (THEWILL) – Mr. Abdullahi Ali, a resident of Rogo Local Government of Kano State caused ‘grievous injuries’ to a minor by beating him with a stick, an incident which culminated in the death of the child, according to a statement by the police to a Kano Chief Magistrate Court.


The police charged Mr. Abdullahi Ali before a Magistrate Court headed by Chief Magistrate Auwal Yusuf Suleman on a single count of culpable homicide, noting that the accused man acted contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.


First information report sheet said, "On 28/7/2010 at about 2300hrs, one Mallam Saleh, male of Karshi Village in Rogo L.G.A Kano State reported at Rogo Police Station that on the same date, you Abdullahi Ali of the same address used stick to beat his son named Haruna Saleh on his head."


"As a result which he sustained grievous injury and died on 29/7/2010, while receiving treatment at Rogo General Hospital."


Abdullahi said he understood the charge read to him in court which was interpreted to him in a language he understood, though he denied pleaded ‘not guilty.’


Inspector Sani Musa noted that police investigation into the alleged homicide was yet to be completed saying, ‘In this circumstance I apply for a date for mention.’


In granting the request of the prosecution, the trial magistrate ruled that ‘this case is adjourned to 13th September for mention, and the accused to be remanded in prison custody.’
