KATSINA, August 21, (THEWILL) - A proposed rally and formal commissioning of Goodluck Jonathan 2011 Campaign Office was today cancelled on the orders of the Katsina State Police Command. Supporters who came from local government councils to witness the event were turned back from entering the premises of the office just as police disallowed some of the supporters from entering the town as their vehicles were not allowed to enter into the metropolis.

Our correspondent reports that the formal commissioning was slated for 10.00 a.m. but policemen barricaded entrance into the office complex and drove both supporters and onlookers away from the office complex.

However, the coordinator of Rebuild Nigeria Initiative, Aminu Mamman Kurabau in an interview with the reporters said no reason was given by the police. He said the group had sought for permission from the police, the state governor "and had written to the state security services as well."

He noted that the group would meet to deliberate on the next line of action adding that the cancellation was a big surprise to the group.

The Rebuild Nigeria Initiative, a group routing for President Goodluck Jonathan, had scheduled the commissioning of its multi-million naira campaign office in Katsina today but a detachment of stern looking policemen stopped the commissioning.

Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sabo Ibrahim Ringim told THEWILL that the commissioning was cancelled for security reasons.
