NATURAL DISASTERS

By NBF News

Flooded streets and overflowing riverbeds will threaten lives and earthquakes in most unlikely areas of the world will occur. 'Two shall be in a field or at home and they shall be torn apart by unexpected disasters' Luke 17:36. Children at school, parents and loved ones in their various places of work may be struck down by devastating disasters. Haiti , Chile and the Fiji Islands experienced these not too long ago. The mudslides in Uganda and the recent fire that gutted the royal Buganda burial site in Uganda are recent examples also. Disasters come like a thief in the night and like a thunder flash. Are you ready?

In Haiti, Chile, Fiji Islands etc 'they did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage' and then suddenly the earthquakes struck. People lost their lives and many were trapped in the rubble. They were buried alive. Many have lost loved ones to gusty winds traveling at 250kilometres per hour in Fiji Islands and the high seas. Because they were ill-prepared, people used their hands to dig up loved ones and watched helplessly as others that were trapped in the rubble died.

How prepared are you to face natural disasters? Do not expect the government to come to your aid? They do not have the facilities and if they do bureaucracy and corruption will not allow prompt decision making and action to save lives. What of the Iroko tree that fell across the highway or its branches that blocked the flow of traffic? How many motorists have tools to clear debris on the highway to let traffic flow. Damaged vehicles from road mishaps are left for days on the street with no one caring.

We must be ready for disasters. How ready are we when high tension electric cables (uncovered cables) drop on the road or in the neighborhood when thunder strikes?

How helpful are we to accident victims? How many motorists have functioning fire extinguishers to tackle emergency fire outbreaks? During the earthquake in Haiti, the Haitians were caught unprepared and massive rescue efforts came from abroad.

How many of us have stored food in their homes to take care of their families during a 3-day unstoppable down pour? How many Nigerians have firstaid kits and food stuff to help in time of disaster. 'As it was in the days of Noah so shall it be in the day of disaster. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark and the flood came and destroyed them all.

Likewise as it was in the days of Lot, they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built. But the same day Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstones from heaven and they were destroyed ' Luke 17: 26 -29.

We must be prepared against natural disasters such as inclement weather conditions; low visibility that becomes no visibility at all during heavy downpour. Driving on edge becomes really dangerous because gutters are completely covered by flood and debris. I 'm not a prophet ,but an ordinary pastor. I can see great dangers ahead. Let us pray against earthquakes and other natural disasters that are very likely to occur, unless we pray really hard.
