The American Medical Association’s Refusal To Call For A Ceasefire Is Scandalous, Goes Against The Medical Oath

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) is very alarmed by the American Medical Association (AMA)’s refusal to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. So many voices have called for a ceasefire in Gaza, it should not be a hard call. A ceasefire is necessary to save innocent lives including the lives of medical staff, crews and patients in Gaza hospitals and healthcare facilities.

The AMA’s decision contradicts the core values of the medical establishment. The AMA’s mission is to heal and serve humanity. The AMA should not be guided by partisanship, ideology, or tribalism. Hate and prejudice with patient care at home or abroad violate the oath of every doctor. We expect more from our medical doctors.

AHRC calls upon the AMA to reconsider its refusal to call for a ceasefire. It should call for an immediate ceasefire and for an end to the siege and blockade imposed on Gaza and its hospitals and medical teams.

“We are definitely living in a strange time,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “Calling for a ceasefire should not be controversial or difficult, especially not when it is from the AMA, people in the business of healing,” added Hamad. “The American Medical Association’s Refusal to Call for a Ceasefire is Scandalous, Goes Against the Medical Oath:
