Plateau Police Warn On Proliferation Of Weapons

JOS, August 18, (THEWILL) - Plateau State Commissioner of Police Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba has expressed concern over the increasing proliferation of illegal weapon in the State. He warned that the development if not checked may impact on the fragile peace in the crises riden state.


The commissioner made the observation during a press briefing where he disclosed that the police has also recovered an AK47 rifle and its ammunition from a private residence in Tudun Wada area of the state.

He said on the 9th day of August, detective from the command let by the D.P.O Shendam Division raided a criminal hideout located at Yelwa-Shendam during which 3 persons were arrested.


"In continuation of its renewed effort to rid the state of all forms of criminality and ensure that the fragile peace currently existing in the state is sustained, the Plateau State Police Command in the past week had successfully smashed gangs of notorious cross-country armed robbers in Nassarawa, Taraba, and Plateau States."


He said the suspects have confessed that they carried out series of robbery operations along Takam road and Wukari Road in Taraba State, and Kastina Ala-Zaki Biam Road in Benue State.


He said the command had also succeeded in affecting the arrest of a gang of a suspected motorcycle thieves at Shendam who specialized in violently dispossessing unsuspecting riders of their commercial motorcycles and selling same to ready buyers.
