AHRC Deplores Israel’s Decision To Build More Illegal Settlements On Occupied Palestinian Land:
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) join all peace-loving people and the international community in denouncing the recent Israeli government’s decision to build more illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian West bank.
This latest Israeli action to expand illegal settlements comes amidst a dramatic escalation of Israeli violence against the Palestinians. The violence is coming from the Israeli occupation forces and the settlers.
This Israeli move is a slap in the face of all international efforts toward peace in Palestine. This blatant and ongoing violation of international law, and other acts of violence against Palestinians, is very alarming. This is not the first time that Israel disregards international law and, indeed, the promises it made to the various US administrations, including Biden’s.
Members of the Netanyahu government openly advocate war crimes against the Palestinians. The situation in the West Bank hasn’t been this dangerous for Palestinians since the 1967 war. AHRC is deeply concerned that the Palestinians are facing a dire threat of pogroms at a scale never seen before. We call on the world to take responsibility to provide Palestinians with protection from an Israeli government of fanatics aiding and abetting fanatic terrorist settlers.
On Palestine, the Biden administration has been a major disappointment. It has not worked to move the peace process or to hold Israel accountable. The Biden administration has instead focused on, in effect, rewarding Israel for its extremism by pushing US Arab allies to normalize with the most radical Israeli government ever. This is not a strategy for peace. It is an electoral strategy to pander to the Israel lobby at the expense of peace in Palestine.
“We call on Mr. Biden to muster the political courage and moral clarity to work on real peace in Palestine,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director.
