Thanksgiving: I Will Appoint Professionals for Specialized Jobs in My Cabinet, Not Politicians, Nwifuru Tells His Party.

By Oswald Agwu

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has stressed that appointments into his cabinet would be based on area of competence and specialization rather than mere political patronage.

Nwifuru stated this during a special thanksgiving service Sunday in his home Church, St. Emmanuel Catholic Parish, Edukwuachi Agbaja in Izzi local government area of the State.

The service was organized on the instance of the Governor in appreciation of his victory and successful takeover as the Governor of Ebonyi State.

Nwifuru was elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Addressing members and guests at the Church service, Governor Nwifuru asked his party and seekers of appointment to exercise little patience, adding that he has been consulting to ensure that round pegs are fixed in round holes.

While assuring that he would announce his major appointments before friday, he warned that would not sacrifice competent and professionalism on the alters of friendship and family affinity.

Nwifuru said: "In due time we will start the main appointments and I'm sure that will happen before Friday.

"To our party, we will get politicians to do the job of politicians and professionals to do the job of professionals.

"There are so many areas that need professionals to be in charge; we will discuss with the party to allow professionals who are not partisan politicians to handle it.

"I want to plead with our leaders who want one position or the other to be patient, and stop gossiping.

"My personal friends that are not willing to do the job of government will not have a place in my administration.

The Governor who reinstated that he would use his position to engineer peace in the State urged harbingers of gossip and scandals to steer clear or face the wrath of his government.

He maintained that part of his priorities should be to mend strained relationships that may have been incured by his predecessor in the course of his committed stewardship, not creating more enemies for him.

"My purpose of being a Governor is to unite everybody in this State.

"My predecessor has worked so hard to change the face of this State, and if there was any enemy he made in the course of doing that, my job is to restore such relationships and not to create more enemies for him.

"By the grace of God, our government will do justice to all that concern Ebonyi people", Nwifuru emphasized.

In a sermon deliverred by Reverend Father. Jude Agama, he admonished Christians to always cultivate the spirit of thanksgiving to God as such draws the presence and favour of God.

He charged those who cajole the Governor to desist, maintaining that it was God who ordains a leader without recourse to size, age, knowledge, intelligence or experience.

He however urged the Governor to put God first in his stewardship in the State.

Prayers were said for the success of Nwifuru's administration, progress of the State and the country.

The event was attended by former Governor, Martin Elechi and wife Joesphine, wife of the first Executive Governor, Mrs Eunice Egwu, past and present State and National Assembly members across the State as well as stakeholders and stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress in the State.

The event featured songs of praise while Bible reading from 2nd Corinthians 13: 11-13 was read by Gov Nwifuru.
