According to an African proverb, “When two great farmers meet one-on-one, they look straight into each other’s eyes, and nod their heads amid brandishing their cutlasses to the admiration of their admirers”. Given the interpretation of the foregoing African proverb, that is exactly what Dr. (Chief) Uche Nworah did on Thursday, June 1, 2023, when he took to his social media page, specifically Facebook, and made a post to applaud Governor Alex Otti for attracting the construction giant,Julius Berger, to Port Harcourt Road Aba, to commence construction as promised.

The reason for his excitement cannot be farfetched, particularly to those that know him as he is highly disposed to being happy when other people record achievements. That is his nature. He said in his post, “Very soon, I will be able to walk along the long stretch of road again. I will start from our family home at OzubuluRoad, and walk through Nzeocha Street where our friends Ngozi, Obinna, and Alaoma lived. I will pass through NzeOkwuchi’s 74 - rooms at Crystal Park Hotel, a beauty in its days. I wonder what state it is in now. It was the venue of John’s Players Breakdancing competitions, shows, and musical concerts in the 80s and 90s.

“I will pass by Afuecheta Transport Ltd’s compound on my way. Home of our friends Adol, Ejike, and Ugochukwuback in the day. Will I still be able to shop at OgaNdukwe’s Unique Supermarket at P.H Road by Crystal Park Avenue junction? It was our ShopRite then.

“I will walk down towards Uratta road junction, pass by the home of the Onwudiegwus although I know that Ogoo, Collins, and Ken won’t be there. I will continue and branch off at Ugwuzor Street to reminisce on our youthful exploitsvisiting Ogbonna Ugwuzor and his brother Churchill. I will continue on my journey, passing through the home of the Nzekwes (Ossy and Chukwuma). I will burst out at NgwaRoad junction, and continue straight on my walk towards Asa Road. Go past the Mbolu, Anumudu, and Moghalubuildings on the right. I know that I won’t meet George, Amobi, and Kingsley Moghalu at home. Everyone has left Aba, well, almost everyone.

“I will end my journey at 46 Asa Road, known as John Holt Town Shop back in the day. It was where my father, the late Nkaonadi had his Building Materials and other businesses. As a youngster, I used to trek from our house to the shop after school to understudy the family business. My brother George did too. Peter and Charles were more at home helping out our mother at her restaurant and ‘provision store’. We preferred to trek as we diverted our taxi money towards watching Chinese Karate films at Emmy or Rex Cinemas.

“Our Aba was fun. Hopefully, we will all come back soon for a reunion, after Port Harcourt Road, a major artery road in Aba has been fixed”.

It might not have wrongly been conjectured at this juncture to say that not a few readers of this piece are finding it difficult to come to grips with the fact that Nworah, popularly known as Ezeudo is a great leader and achiever.

If you are still in doubt of the foregoing fact, it is expedient to let say that when the curtains were finally drawn on Governor Willie Obiano’s eight–year stellar administration in Anambra State, under whom he served as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, that he was among the first to stand up to be counted for being achievers in that political dispensation. It is no surprise that he was among those that Governor Willie Obiano honored on March 9, 2022, at the International Convention Centre, Awka with the second highest state honor, as ‘Anambra State Distinguished Commander’.

At this juncture, it is expedient to recall that his prowess at ABS through the support of the State Governor, Willie Obiano as he recorded unprecedented successes that were lacking before his appointment. At the time Obiano was the governor of Anambra State, Nworah was amember of the team that assisted the governor in extensively investing in both equipment and Human Resources. It would be recalled that the governor and the team wherein Ezeudo was affiliated with built a brand-newdigital radio and TV complex and bought brand-newtransmitters and other equipment. Under his watch as the managing director of the broadcast station, ABS became a global media brand and began to serve a worldwide audience. In as much as he had the support of the governor, he no doubt deserved to be applauded as narratives of not few personalities that bungled opportunities offered to them are not farfetched across the country.

In fact, it was under his administration as the managing director of the broadcast station that “Ndi Anambra living in the diaspora began to follow what is happening at home through ABS App, ABS website, ABS live Facebookstreaming, ABS internet TV among others. Even those living in Nigeria received radio and TV signals from distant places with hundreds of thousands of followers on the broadcast station’s Facebook page alone, attracted by our quality content. No state-owned media in Nigeria can boast of such numbers. I am hoping that we would have crossed the one million followers mark by the time we exit in 2022.
