LG BOSS, 4 OTHERS IN TROUBLE FOR THREATENING COUNCILLORS

The Chairman of Ijero Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Kumuyi Adewusi, may be suspended if found guilty of the allegation of threat to the lives of eight councillors in the council.

Adewusi, who had been summoned by the state House of Assembly, would face a panel constituted by the House today to defend himself otherwise he would be suspended.

Four other councillors in the local council alleged to have been accomplices of the council chairman would also appear before the panel.

Handing down the directive, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Saliu Adeoti, said it became imperative to investigate the allegation taking cognizance of the magnitude of doom it spelt for the state.

The councillors, in their complaint at the House, alleged they had been excluded from all legislative matters by the council chairman, who had been allegedly working with only the four councillors in his camp. The embattled councillors noted that all the legislative matters, including approval of projects, being handled by the four councillors with the council boss were null and void because they didn't form quorum as required by the constitution.

They, however, pleaded with the House to come to their rescue from alleged threat and illegal activities of the council boss and his accomplices. The eight councillors were said to have drawn the ire of the council boss when the former leader of the legislative arm was impeached on allegation of being a rubber stamp to the executive.

The four councillors expected to appear before the panel include Albert Ojo, Ayodele Gabriel, Olowolayemo Tayo, Agboola Olakunle and the council legislative officer.

In his reaction, the council boss, who spoke through his Secretary, Oludele Akande, said: 'It is purely a legislative matter and we are not going to interfere in the spirit of separation of powers as enshrined in the Constitution.'

Adeoti said the allegation that the four councilors had received and passed into law the same day, the over N2 billion 2010 appropriation bill of the council without forming the requisite quorum was too weighty to be swept under the carpet.
