NNPC Reaffirms Commitment On Gas To Power
ABUJA, August 09, (THEWILL) - As part of efforts to ensure the success of the Federal Government aspiration on steady electric power supply across the country, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has expressed its commitment to ensure adequate Gas supply to the Power plants in every nook and cranny of the country.
The Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Mr. Austin Oniwon made the commitment when the Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Timipre Sylva paid him a courtesy call at the NNPC Towers, Abuja.
Mr. Oniwon said power is the benchmark of most developed industrial economies in the world and as part of the Corporation’s commitment to support the Federal Government aspiration on Power; the NNPC is doing everything humanly possible to ensure uninterrupted supply of gas to power.
"The NNPC more than ever before is determined and committed to the Federal Government’s Gas to Power initiative and as the Corporation saddled with the responsibility of managing the Country’s hydrocarbon resources, we have resolved to ensure that the abundant gas resources in the country is channeled into the power plants," Oniwon asserted.
He maintained that the NNPC was undergoing rapid transformation in consonance with the dynamic nature of the Oil and Gas Industry noting that with the imminent passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill by the National Assembly, the corporation was fully prepared to adjust to the new dispensation which would transform the corporation to a commercially driven national oil company.
According to him, "We cannot continue business as usual hence the need to transform in preparation for the passage of the PIB. The industry is changing and NNPC is preparing to fit in as a 21st century company. We are committed and determined to overcome all the challenges that will come with the passage of the PIB."
He reiterated the corporation’s commitment to the completion of the Bayelsa Greenfield Refinery and assured that already the NNPC was negotiating with a world class company to establish petrochemical plants in the country.
Mr. Oniwon disclosed that the NNPC was planning to establish three additional mega stations in Bayelsa and lauded the State Government for bringing peace to the State saying that the peace initiative has increased daily production of crude oil by the International Oil Companies operating in the area.
On Brass Liquefied Natural Gas, the NNPC helmsman averred that all hands were on deck to ensure that the Final Investment Decision, FID, is achieved before the end of the first quarter of next year.
Mr. Oniwon expressed the readiness of the Corporation to continue to collaborate with Bayelsa State Government and other State Governments to guarantee the efficient management of the petroleum resources in the Country for the benefit of all Nigerians.
In his response, Governor Timipre Sylva said the peace initiative was successful following the introduction of the three E principle of engaging, empowering and enforcing laws with the ex-militants by his administration informing that peace has been fully restored and kidnapping is now a thing of the past in the state.
He opined that the golden age of oil production is within reach when the Federal Government, State, NNPC and Oil companies will work together and commended the Corporation for its numerous projects in the State.
