Adamawa State High Court have ordered the Department of State Services, DSS, to release three members of the Peoples Democratic Party detained in its custody.

The three PDP members include Yusuf Mohammed, Zira John and Solomon Abafras.

The Nigerian Voice recalls that the trio were arrested and detained by the DSS since April 16, 2023, after they allegedly assaulted an operative of the DSS.

The case was subsequently taken to court with prayers for the release of the three.

While ruling on Thursday, the court which is sitting in Yola, asked that the detainees be released with immediate effect.

The court, presided over by Justice Christopher Mapeo, ordered the secret police to release the applicants unconditionally.

The judge consequently adjourned the matter to next week, May 3, for hearing of the motion on notice.

The three applicants, who are supporters of the PDP candidate in the supplementary governorship election of April 15, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, were seized by the DSS after they allegedly attacked a DSS man on April 16, shortly after the former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Ari, illegally announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen Aishatu Ahmed Binani as winner of the election.
