ABUJA, August 09, (THEWILL) - Plateau State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Pauline Tallen has decried the poor state of disaster management structures in the state.

The Deputy Governor stated this yesterday while speaking at a workshop organized by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

She said while natural and manmade disasters have been increasing in frequency, the structures and policy framework being put in place at various levels to respond to them is inadequate and sometimes ineffective.

Tallen said the state government is however doing everything within its capacity to make sure that peace returns to the state adding that there is the need for legislative framework to guide both conceptual and practical approaches in coping with disasters and natural hazards.

Director General of NEMA Mr. Charles Agbho who was represented by the Deputy Director Planning Research and forecasting, NEMA, Alhassan Nuhu said states need to be more serious about disaster management.

"We need a rallying point to mitigate, prepare and respond to disaster situations which is backed by law," he stated.
