2011: DON'T SHIFT DATE, SAYS TUC

By NBF News

President of the Trade Union Congress, Peter Esele, on Thursday warned against the postponement of the 2011 elections.

Lately, politicians had started canvassing the postponement of the elections.

But the TUC boss said such calls were misplaced and insisted that the elections should be allowed to hold despite the difficulties.

Esele spoke in Abuja when he paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega.

The TUC President argued that postponing the elections would only cause unnecessary crisis in the polity. 'We must all join hands together to help INEC to get it right so that we can have Credible elections,' he said.

The trade union leader advised Professor Jega not to be carried away by the numerous accolades that had trailed his appointment, saying the task ahead of him was huge but could be achieved if there was sincerity of purpose.
