Kano North Lawmaker, Barau Jibrin Declares Interest In Senate Presidency

The current Senator representing Kano North Senatorial District, Barau Jibrin, has declared his intention to run for the post of Senate President for the 10th National Assembly.

Senator Jibrin made this known while speaking with reporters at the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday, adding that he will officially declare for the position in few days.

The Senator described himself as the most ranking and experienced among Senators-elect seeking to lead the next Senate.

He also dismissed recourse to religious sentiments by some aspirants instead of competence and record of performance as criteria for electing the next Senate President.

Following his announcement, Senator Jibrin is the second ranking senator-elect to make his intention to contest for the position of Senate President.

The Nigerian Voice had reported that the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC – Abia North) had on Tuesday said he would contest the position.
