The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has rejected a bail request made by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sunday J. Ubua who is an associate/deputy of the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari.

In a judgement delivered on Friday, a three-member panel of the appellate court held that the appeal by Ubua was without merit.

Recall that Ubua is standing trial with Kyari and three other former members of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Force Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on charges relating to unlawful dealing of drugs and attempting to tamper with evidence.

Justice Stephen Adah, in the lead judgment, on Friday, stated that the appellant did not bring any new materials to court to warrant it departing from the earlier decision on the issue by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

She subsequently affirmed the ruling by Justice Nwite, rendered on March 28, 2022, rejecting Ubua’s application for bail on the grounds that the prosecution placed sufficient materials before the court to warrant its rejection of the bail application.
