The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has said its operatives will provide adequate security for members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) planning to lead a protest march in Abuja today, March 6, 2023.

The PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, is expected to lead party leaders, governors, and members on a protest march to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters, Abuja, over the outcome of the February 25 presidential election.

In a notice released by the party on Sunday, the planned protest was said to take off by 10am from the PDP headquarters, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

The opposition party also directed members planning to attend the protest march to wear black attires in demonstration of the somber mood of the party.

Speaking with the press, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Sadiq Abubakar, assured Abuja residents that the command will ensure the security of lives and property during the protest march.

Abubakar added that the command will ensure that the protest is peaceful, democratic, and devoid of violence.

He said, “Protests have so many categories. Ours is to ensure that a protest is peaceful. However, it is not in my capacity to determine whether it is right or wrong for them to protest.

“Ours is to ensure peace and tranquillity in the FCT. Our duty is to ensure that there’s the security of lives and properties of everyone, and we’ll protect everybody.”
