2023: Senator Shehu Sani Mocks PDP G5 Governors Over Consensus Candidate

By Damilare Adeleye

A former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has mocked a faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) popularly known as the G-5 or Integrity Group, for being unable to agree on a consensus presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

The G-5 group which include the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo), have been running a battle against their party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The governors had pulled out of the main PDP fold since last year, insisting that except the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, quits his position, they wouldn’t have anything to do with the presidential campaigns.

With barely three days into the 2023 general elections, Senator Sani, in a post through his Twitter handle on Tuesday, said the G5 governors led by Wike were going about in the same attire for seven months but yet couldn’t agree on a uniform presidential candidate to support.

“The G5 Governors wore uniform attire for Seven Months in London, Madrid and Paris but couldn’t agree on a Uniform candidate,” the Kaduna State politician said.

Earlier, Sani has also urged Nigerians to seek God’s help to choose the best candidate for the Nigerian job in the 2023 election. He noted that though everyone has their preferred candidate, it is best to hear from God who is best to rule the country.

Sani tweeted: “Everyone has his favourite or preferred Candidate, but we are mortals. It’s very important that we also ask The Almighty to help us choose what is best for our country. He sees, hears and knows what is beyond our eyes, ears and knowledge.”
