Two supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly died in an auto crash that occured in Ebonyi State on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

It was learnt that the tragic incident happened along Onuebonyi Road, by Sharon Junction, in the Izzi Local Government Area of the state yesterday.

According to report, some APC supporters had chartered a vehicle belonging to Onitsha South Mass Transit, and were heading to Iboko, the Izzi council secretariat, the venue for the flag-off campaign of the APC governorship candidate, in the state, Francis Nwifuru, when the incident happened.

The two victims identified as a man and woman reportedly died instantly at the scene of the accident due to the excruciating impact of the accident.

An eyewitness who gave details of the incident to journalists said the accident occurred as a result of the carelessness of the driver.

“One of the drivers was moving carelessly, but unfortunately for him, he collided with another car in an attempt to overtake without minding his life and that of passengers.

“I learnt the victims of the accident had been taken to the hospital, but I’m sure two persons, a man and a woman died instantly. It was a painful experience today,” the source who pleaded anonymity told newsmen.

The State Police Command, however, has not issued any official statement on the event, same as the Ebonyi State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, as at the time of filing this report.
