JOS, August 02, (THEWILL) - Former governor of Plateau State, Chief Joshua Dariye has accused the present governor of the state, Jonah Jang of lacking commitment in solving the persistent problems of the state.

He said this is because Jang is not taking serious steps in integrating the relevant stakeholders in the state in the act of governance.

Dariye said as far as he is concerned, the era of setting up indefinite panels "to look into immediate and remote causes and proffer solutions is over" hence, "government should be all inclusive, make conscientious efforts in bringing everyone together if the present administration wants these incessant crises to end".

The former governor maintained that 90 percent of the crises in Jos are due to political reasons.

He said the crises are only given religious coloration. The former governor called on governor Jang to learn from the experiences of past governors of the state.

Similarly, another former governor of the State, Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun added that "there is need for sincerity and openness in all discussions so that lasting solutions could be found because any crisis that disrupts the state may escalate to other states and eventually engulf the nation".

The Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang represented by the Secretary to the state government, Mr. Samson Dimka agreed there is need for everyone to cooperate with the government in the effort of restoring permanent peace in the State.

Jang further urged every sincere citizen of the state to always dialogue to resolve all differences instead of resorting to violence which does not augur well for the state and its citizens.

The three men met at a peace conference in Jos today.

Also speaking, the representative of the DFID, Dr. Desmond Word, said peace is critical in all human endeavors hence all should do everything to ensure a peaceful co-existence.

He said, "Peace is critical in Plateau State, Nigeria, the Sub-region as well as the entire continent if progress and development are to be achieved. Nigeria has done much in terms of peace keeping in many nations; there is need for peace to reign in Nigeria because if peace eludes the nation, the entire continent will suffer."
