The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abuja Council, is set to commence investigation into allegation of blackmail against one of its members, Mr. Murphy Gangana by the National Judicial Institute (NJI).

The union in a statement in Abuja said the allegation by the NJI cannot be ignored as the NUJ frowns at unethical conduct by its members, stressing that it violates its constitutional mandate to monitor governance and hold government officials accountable to the people as well as against the spirit of professionalism.

The statement which was signed by the chairman of council, Mr. Jacob Edi, said officials of the NJI should be prepared to come forward before its disciplinary panel to testify as the NUJ Abuja was ready to transfer the matter to the police upon completion of hearing if it establishes that there was any wrong doing by its member

The NJI had petitioned the NUJ over an alleged attempt by Ganagana to blackmail some unnamed senior officials of the institute over cases of corruption.
