GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT VOICES SADNESS OVER DEADLY PLANE CRASH IN PAKISTAN

28 July - The President of the General Assembly has voiced his sadness after learning of today's plane crash near the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, which has reportedly killed all 152 people aboard the aircraft.

The plane was on a flight this morning from Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, when it crashed in hills just north of Islamabad as it was about to land.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Assembly President Ali Treki offered his prayers and condolences to the bereaved family members and to the people and Government of Pakistan.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also issued a statement through his spokesperson in which he expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
